The Theme for the year will be posted here at the beginning of the contest.
- You must be a public, private, charter or home school student in Grades K-12, residing in Orange County.
- First place will receive $100, second place $75, and third place $50. Honorable mention essays will also be recognized.
- Strive to organize your essay with an introduction, a body with a few key points, and a summary.
- Prepare your essay in a document on your computer; then copy and paste your completed essay in the entry form below.
- You may wish to read some of the previous contest winners submitted during previous years.
- As you work on the draft of your essay, revise it a few times; then invite someone (such as your teacher or a parent) to review your essay for spelling, punctuation, and style before you submit your final essay for the contest.
- Select the appropriate category for your essay in the entry form below:
- Elementary (Grades K-2)
- Elementary (Grades 3-5)
- Middle School (Grades 6-8)
- High School (Grades 9-12)
- Special Needs (All Grades)
- Just a reminder: Your essay should be a maximum of 1,500 characters (maximum 250 words). (We limit the box to 1500 characters.)
- A Mayor’s Trophy will be presented to the school with the MOST entries.
- The essays will be reviewed by a panel during the spring and summer, and winners will be announced and awarded during the Week of the Family Awards Dinner in November.
