Puerto Rican Organization for the Performing Arts (PROPA) will provide historic context highlighting the interconnections between the cultural traditions of African Americans from coastal Louisiana and Puerto Ricans and will demonstrate how genealogy has helped preserve the legacy of the music and dance practices of these Caribbean sugarcane workers from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
